CHRISTA COUTURE: Her Story of Love, Loss and Finding Hope Through Her Music

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-Aug 05, 2011 - Throughout the past three years, Christa Couture, an overall talented and well established alt-folk musician from Vancouver, BC was faced with the tragic events of losing two sons. A deeply emotional fate, by sharing her experiences and getting the support from others who have dealt with the same, helped her find the way back on track.

When her first son, Emmett, died suddenly in 2008 Couture decided to cope with her feelings and sorrow by expressing them in the songs for her second record The Wedding Singer and the Undertaker. Being public about her experiences was a hard step as personal information like that can easily be misused. Still, sharing  her thoughts helped her through tough times as she was no longer alone with her grief. Couture was nominated for "Best Female Artist" at the 2008 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards and won a prize for "Best Folk Acoustic Album" for this record.

Soon after she got pregnant again and wanting to be cautious, did not explicitly go public with this information. Without being specific, Couture noted that she was going to take a break from performing. Her second son, Ford, was born in 2009 and by his 1st birthday in 2010 she decided it would be safe to look outward again, announce his birth and start performing again. In July 2010, Ford died unexpectedly and she was once again faced with one of the most upsetting and incomprehensible situations life can take you through.

In the meantime she has found herself back composing music, filled with depth and emotion. In June this year she released her two new EP’s Loved and Lost, the first featuring five stunning fan favourites and the second a mix of five unreleased songs from the same time period.

Couture would like to dedicate these to all mothers out there who have had to go through the same sorrow and loss. Hopefully her music can help them through the tough times as they helped herself in hers.
