I am Anna - An Exclusive Chat with Shweta Nagpurkar Saxena

Shweta Nagpurkar Saxena talks to Anna Hazare - “The one who lives for others, lives forever…this is the proved history of our Nation”

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-25th September 2011 was the day when I touched the no-corruption soil of a village in India. A pristine village where even thinking about involving in the corruption is considered as a sin, a place where peace is allowed to rule the minds, where from children to the elderly choose the path of non-violence and anti-corruption and live with the faith that they made a right decision, village which since last several decades has proudly carried on the mission of ‘I am Anna’!

Yes, this notable description is of Anna Hazare’s village Ralegaon Siddhi near Pune in Maharashtra. 74 yrs old crusader, Anna Hazare, has dedicated his entire life for the welfare of the country. He now is engrossed in mushrooming National awareness to get passed the anti-corruption related Janlokpal Bill.

There are many non-supporters who visited Annaji’s village to cross-check his preaching and returned back as an added figure to his Supporters list. And this still continues. However, after Anna’s 2 anshans, countless people are visiting his village to express their respect/ support and affection for him.
School visits, family visits, researchers and also, other Nationality supporters/ admirers are making their sincere attempts to let Annaji know that they are Anna too.

Head of the village, Mr. Jaysingh, in his interview said, “Our village is turning into a pilgrimage for several visitors. People come to have a glance of Annaji. They talk to us about his life’s journey, his values, about his patriotism. Many researchers travel miles to reach here and understand the fact that how did one Man can quaver the whole Nation in such a non-violent way? Visitors are willing to give huge donation; however, we aren’t accepting it anymore as we do not need it currently. We gathered almost Rs. 50, 000/- in a day in the past. We have formed a trust of this people’s money and all the information related to its expenses has been made transparent on the internet. Many people come with their unresolved problems/ complain and request to continue this anti-corruption agitation.” He added, “We contributed in the crusade by doing chain fasts and candle marches. Annaji has been always teaching us that every good act we wish the world should follow HAS TO begin from our home. Thus, we have come very clean despite of endless allegations. Would surely continue to remain corruption-free and addiction-free village. Thanks. Jai Hind.”
Annaji, rightly called as the ‘Father of the Modern India’,  in his interview has once again earnestly appealed to all the Indians in the country and abroad to continue supporting this anti-corruption movement in a non-violent way. He also mentioned that Janlokpal Bill is just a part of his mission. He is next aiming to bring-in laws of NOTA, Right to Recall, Right to Reject, Decentralization to clean the Nation and to get freedom for the Motherland from the cancer of corruption.

His three vital messages for every Indian are:
1] "The one who lives for himself and dies 1 day.....dies forever. Whereas, the 1 who lives for others and dies......Lives forever. This is the proved history of our Nation".

2] "Even animals, birds take birth/ live/ eat-drink and die......than what is the difference between them and us? We Humans should use our brains for the constant development of self and the Nation".

3] "Indians abroad should continue loving their Country and supporting our anti-corruption movement. This is just the beginning. We need EVERY Indian to join hands in this crusade.

Surely, the readers who believe in the above messages will fearlessly join the mission of ‘I Am Anna’.
[Special thanks to: Mr. Vir Dewan, Mr. Deepak Bharadia, Mr. Pathare, Mr. B. B. Somani, Mr. Shyam, Mr. Jaysingh, Mr. Datta, Volunteer Pramod, India TV Reporters]

Jai Hind!

Harper Government takes action with tough new warning messages for tobacco products

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-September 27, 2011-OTTAWA – The Harper Government gave final approval for tough new warning labels on cigarettes and little cigar packages, the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health, and the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, announced today. Tobacco manufacturers and importers have been given until March 21, 2012 to transition to the new labels, while retailers will have until June 19, 2012 to ensure all packages on their shelves feature these new labels.

“Our Government has followed through on its commitment to introduce new, stronger labelling requirements on key tobacco products,” said Minister Aglukkaq. “The new Tobacco Act regulations will put new, updated health warnings and information into the hands of millions of smokers.”

The new health warnings are part of new Tobacco Act regulations, now in force, that set out new labelling requirements for cigarettes and little cigars.

"The messages introduced today reflect recent research on the health hazards associated with tobacco use and the benefits of quitting," said Minister Blaney. "This is an important initiative for the health of Canadians."

The new health warnings feature, for the first time, compelling stories from people affected by tobacco use, such as the late anti-smoking activist Barb Tarbox. Two of the messages feature images of Ms. Tarbox, taken while she was dying of lung cancer. Pat Tarbox, her husband at the time, and Mackenzie Tarbox, their daughter, joined Minister Aglukkaq for the announcement.

“I applaud the courage and commitment of those who are sharing their experience with tobacco use through these messages,” said Minister Aglukkaq. “I’m especially proud to welcome the family of Ms. Tarbox. Her unforgettable image has become a symbol of the hazards of smoking.”

“The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada commends Minister Aglukkaq on this important initiative aimed at reducing death and disability caused by tobacco industry products, including heart disease and stroke, and other chronic diseases," says Bobbe Wood, President, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. "We've learned that when it comes to tobacco control, we must be comprehensive  a key component of this approach includes strong, graphic and prominent warnings on tobacco packaging."
The regulations will be published soon in Canada Gazette, Part II.  Also now in force are new regulations prohibiting the terms “light” and “mild”, and variations thereof, on cigarettes, little cigars and various other tobacco products and accessories.

Espionage thriller Aazaan sees global launch with India-England ODIs

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-azaan's is taking the same route as Ra.One when it comes to marketing and promotional strategy. Just like the Shah Rukh Khan starrer which had seen a huge global launch earlier this year during World Cup cricket where it's First Look was revealed, even this debut effort by Sachiin Joshi is treading the same path. Now the First Look of Aazaan would be launched globally with the commencement of India-England One Day Internationals today.

"The makers of Aazaan have a huge plan for the film's launch. They understand that cricket is a huge platform for the film to be seen worldwide and hence have booked some of the most prominent spots right through this cricket series. It has turned out top be an extremely expensive affair but it is in line with the kind of budget that Aazaan has kept aside for it's marketing activities", says a source attached to the film which has been directed by Prashant Chadha.

Touted to be Bollywood's biggest espionage thriller ever, Aazaan is a multi-crore affair which boasts of an elaborate shooting schedule all over the globe that includes locations spread across France, Morocco, China, Germany, Poland, South Africa and Thailand to name a few.

"Since the film has an international appeal, it makes sense to make use of a global platform to let the audience know what the film is all about", the source continues, "During these ODIs, the First Look of Aazaan would be seen not just in India but all the countries where these matches would be broadcast. Idea is to create global awareness around the film since it has an elaborate release plan for itself this October."

Those who have caught a sneak peak of the film claim that Aazaan boasts of the kind of striking visuals that belong to 'never seen before' category. However one looks forward to check out if these claims are indeed true or not once the First Look indeed arrives during these cricket matches.

When contacted, the film's producers confirmed that Aazaan would indeed kick-start it's campaign starting with the India-England ODI series. Now one just hopes that India starts winning as well to increase further viewer-ship of Aazaan and helps the film achieve what it has been set out for.

More updates to follow soon.

As average Canadians we run our households on a shoe string budget, without extravagance, but without sacrificing necessities and comforts for our families; so shall we run the country. As a party, Paramount Canadians Party has accepted the economic program of NFCA and it is clear from its platform.

9-     To ensure the seniors a happy and self-reliant life.
10- To apply PNP program to Ontario

Death of Public Morality in Politicians Mourned

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-At a public meeting held in Scarborough, a huge crowd protested against the economic policies of the Government, especially against the ever rising auto insurance premium, uncontrolled gas prices and cheating at gas stations.  The meeting condemned the politicians’ lack of courage to take up issues that really matter to the common man.

Dr. Bikram Lamba, the Chairman roundly criticised the action of the Government and media for ignoring the protest  hunger strike by NFCA volunteers, when five persons were rushed to hospital.  “It is amazing that the media that goes in frenzy over the injury even to a cat or a racoon blissfully ignored the human suffering. None of the political leaders even took any notice of the seniors and women, thus showing scant regard for human life”, observed Dr. Lamba.

The meeting unanimously welcomed the new political party – Paramount Canadians Party and assured all help to the candidates of this party. The candidates received standing ovation from the huge mass assembled there.

The meeting also observed a silence for 2 minutes to mourn the death of morality, human feelings, and accountability in the established political parties.

Fourth Suspected War Criminal in Custody

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-
Ottawa, July 27, 2011 — The Canadian public’s tips and information have led to the capture of a fourth individual suspected of being complicit in war crimes or crimes against humanity. This update follows the announcement on July 21, 2011 where the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety and the Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, asked Canadians to help in identifying 30 individuals suspected of being complicit in war crimes or crimes against humanity, and who are thought to be hiding out in locations across Canada
Henry Pantoja Carbonel from Peru, one of the individuals named on the CBSA web site, was found in the Greater Toronto Area and is now in CBSA custody.

“Canadians are stepping up and providing valuable help to the Canada Border Services Agency,” said Public Safety Minister Vic Toews. “Canada will not be a haven for those who have been involved in war crimes or crimes against humanity. With the help of citizens, the suspects are being located and they will face the consequences,” concluded Minister Toews.

“Our priority is to prevent individuals who pose a safety or security concern from entering Canada in the first place, said Minister Kenney. “The ability to detain and remove people is vital to protecting the safety and security of the Canadian public and to maintaining the integrity of our immigration program.”

The Government of Canada is grateful for the assistance the public is providing and ask that they continue to look at the CBSA web site for updates. Members of the public are reminded that they should not take action to apprehend the individuals listed on the website. MINISTER FLAHERTY PROMOTES EAST AFRICA DROUGHT RELIEF FUND

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-Mississauga, ON - Today, the Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, visited the Mississauga offices of World Vision to promote the East Africa Drought Relief Fund. The Fund, announced on July 22, 2011, by the Minister of International Cooperation, Beverley J. Oda, will allow Canadians to participate in relief efforts in the region, and the Government will recognize their participation by adding an equivalent amount to its own relief efforts.  Eve Adams, MP for Mississauga-Brampton South, accompanied Minister Flaherty. This weekend, many other Government MPs, on behalf of Minister Oda, promoted the Fund through social media and community events across Canada.

"For every donation made by Canadians to an eligible Canadian charity, the Government will contribute the same amount to the East Africa Drought Relief Fund," explained Minister Flaherty. "Our Government is deeply saddened by the extent of the crisis, which my colleague Minister Oda has recently witnessed, and we remain committed to helping our African friends." For every dollar an individual Canadian donates over a 10-week period (retroactive to July 6, 2011, and ending September 16, 2011) to a registered Canadian charity responding to the drought in East Africa, the Government will contribute an equivalent amount to the East Africa Drought Relief Fund. The Government of Canada will administer the relief fund separately, disbursing funds to organizations best suited to make an effective and real difference in the lives of people affected by the drought.

This Fund is in addition to Canada's earlier contribution of $22 million and also in addition to the $50 million Minister Oda announced on July 22, 2011.  “I saw a true humanitarian crisis at Dadaab. The stories of how the women and children struggled to reach the camp are incredible,” said Minister Oda last week. “Their perseverance and courage must be matched by our willingness to help. Canada remains gravely concerned by this humanitarian crisis. Our commitment today will help bring relief to those affected, particularly for the women and children who are the most vulnerable.” Without any significant rainfall for over two years, people in the region are experiencing crop failure, loss of livestock and acute malnutrition, resulting in the migration of hundreds of thousands of people. This has led to a humanitarian crisis, which many experts forecast will extend into the next year.

The United Nations upgraded the level of humanitarian emergency in parts of Somalia, officially recognizing the crisis as a famine. On Friday, Minister Oda visited the Dadaab refugee camps in Kenya, the largest in the region, to review first-hand the humanitarian crisis, and the work and needs of humanitarian partners on the ground.     For more information on Canada’s response to the East Africa drought and for further details on the East Africa Drought Relief Fund, please visit CIDA’s website [http://www.acdi-cida.gc.ca/acdi-cida/ACDI-CIDA.nsf/eng/ANN-71910150-JQF].

Selena Gomez Fans Surpass Barack Obama Fans on Facebook, Plus Three Social Media Survey Finds

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-
31 Other Latino Celebrities Among Top 1,000 Facebook Fan Pages
Latino Facebook Users Grew 167 Percent Compared to 21 Percent Among Non-Hispanic
WASHINGTON, July 12, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Plus Three recently conducted a survey of social networking sites to determine the growth of this valuable media tool for Latinos. Among the more interesting findings, actress and singer Selena Gomez has passed a significant milestone on Facebook by surpassing Barack Obama with 22.5 million fans.  A total of 32 Latino celebrities are among the top 1,000 Facebook fan pages, the survey finds.

"Latino Facebook users grew 167% compared to 21% among non-Hispanics from April 2010 to April 2011 according to comScore," said Juan Proano, President, Plus Three. " Latinos are using Facebook to stay connected with family and friends and to stay connected with their identity. Any organization that wants to stay in touch with a Latino audience will need to focus its outreach on using Facebook and social media in order to stay relevant today".
The triple digit growth provides the strongest indicator yet that Latinos are rapidly adopting Facebook and social media to connect with family and friends but also to advance common interests, issues, grassroots movements and social causes.
Plus Three surveyed the top 1,000 Facebook fan pages and found 32 Latino celebrities among the top 1,000.  Only three Latinos broke into the top 100. Shakira was the top Latina celebrity with 35 million fans and ranked number eight on the overall list followed by Selena Gomez at number thirty-five and Enrique Iglesias at number forty-eight.
The Latinos with at least 2 million Facebook fans are mostly singers, athletes, and comedians.  Athletes from the World Cup and Reggaeton artists dominated the list.  Latino celebrities on the list include Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Lionel Messi, Ricardo Kaka, George Lopez, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin, and Carlos Santana.
Nielsen reports that the average Facebook user spends four hours and 39 minutes on the site per week. That is more time than the average user spends on Google, Yahoo, YouTube, Microsoft, Wikipedia, and Amazon combined. With a number of public and private initiatives to drive broadband adoption among underserved communities, such as the one being led by NCLR, LULAC and One Economy, we should expect that Latinos will continue to increase their on-line presence as well as become more sophisticated in their usage to stay connected at home, school, work, and even on the go.
